Students Explore Brunei While Learning Malay

Other than recruiting highly qualified English teachers, we also offer courses through our Training and Learning Centre. One of them is a 2-month Beginner Malay course, held once a week, where students cover a variety of topics to help them navigate everyday conversations and deepen their understanding of Bruneian culture.

As part of the learning process, a tutor from CfBT’s Training and Learning Centre (TLC), Cikgu Waida, brought her students to several notable locations in Brunei, such as Balai Khazanah and various mosques, where they explored the nation’s rich Malay culture and Islamic heritage. One memorable visit included taking her students from the U.S. Embassy to enjoy Brunei’s iconic local dish, ambuyat!

These visits allow students to practise using Malay during the excursions by exploring, asking questions, and applying simple Malay phrases to reflect on what they experience. Furthermore, these activities expand their vocabulary around themes such as history, religion, and museums.

Recently, a group from the Embassy of the Philippines completed their Beginner Malay course and celebrated their graduation with Cikgu Waida in a heartfelt ceremony, honoured by the presence of Her Excellency Ambassador Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio.
