Educational Initiatives and Programmes

CfBT is committed to enhancing English language education in Brunei through a variety of professional educational programmes and initiatives. The key aim of these initiatives is to create more opportunities for collaboration and learning among CfBT and Bruneian English teachers and in turn, improved learner engagement and outcomes.

School-Based Professional
Development

School-based professional development sessions range from informal sharing sessions, such as collaborative planning, teaching and observation to more formal methods, such as workshops, professional development sessions and professional mentoring. Popular topics include reading/writing skills, teaching reading/writing, blended learning and the use of technology, phonics and adaptive teaching.

National and Cluster-Based Workshops in Collaboration with The Ministry of Education

Several initiatives, such as secondary assessment item writing training and production of national standardised examinations, phonics workshops and PRA (early years) showcases have been organised by CfBT in recent years.
The assessment item writer training workshops aim to enhance Bruneian teacher skills in creating standardised English assessments for IGCSE ESL and O Level English.
The initiative benefits upper secondary students by providing high-quality assessment tools, with complete exam papers released in 2024. New teams have been preparing additional standardised assessment resources for schools in Brunei.

Literacy Programmes to Raise
The Profile of Reading and
Book Culture in Brunei

Through partnerships with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and relevant agencies, CfBT has been developing a coordinated reading strategy through national events and campaigns. Initiatives include Reading Schools, book clubs, library-based activities, home-schools links, social media campaigns, and reading-based competitions. The Reading Hubs project, modelled on an accreditation program run by The Scottish Book Trust, will be implemented in selected schools in 2025 and 2026.
