Lit Up! Design a
Reading Space
Competition Prize-Giving
The Lit Up! Design a Reading Space prize-giving ceremony, held on Thursday, 16 October, marked the culmination of collaboration, creativity, and hard work by schools across the country. The event was well attended by representatives from the winning schools, as well as officials from the Ministry of Education.
We also took the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the remarkable efforts of school coordinators who went above and beyond during the Lit Up! Book Drive earlier this year.
The event began with an inspiring opening speech by Louise, our CEO, who highlighted the importance of reading.
Prizes were then awarded to the top three secondary schools.
🥇 First place: SM Tanjong Maya, whose library transformation wowed the audience. Their design stood out for blending creativity with inclusivity — celebrating authors from around the world and providing resources to support students with special needs.
🥈 Second place: SM Perdana Wazir from Kuala Belait, who envisioned a “Reading Garden” — a vibrant, sunflower-themed space that radiates warmth, positivity, and calm.
🥉 Third place: SM PJN PH from Kuala Belait, commended for their innovative use of recycled materials to create an inspiring and sustainable reading environment.

Awards were also presented to three primary school winners and a special mention, all of whom demonstrated a genuine passion for fostering a reading culture in their schools.
🥇 First place: Sekolah Rendah Bukit Beruang was awarded 1st place because they strategically transformed their library space it into a literacy-rich, inclusive, and sustainable learning space that supports student engagement and schoolwide literacy goals
🥈 Second place: Sekolah Rendah Lumapas was awarded 2nd place for its creative “Enchanted Forest” theme and whole-school approach, transforming the library and multiple reading corners into vibrant, student-friendly spaces that promote reading throughout the school.
🥉 Third place: Sekolah Rendah Mentiri was awarded 3rd place for its schoolwide implementation of reading corners in every classroom, driven by strong teacher collaboration, student involvement, and effective resource use to build an accessible and sustainable reading culture.
Their efforts made reading visible, enjoyable, and meaningful for their students.
The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of celebration — a fitting tribute to the creativity and commitment of schools championing the joy of reading.
